How to Spring Clean Like a Boss

Okay, I know in almost every post I have said some iteration of “spring is almost here” but really it is! It’s today! Which makes this post perfectly timed, today I am talking about Spring cleaning!

Nothing makes me happier than a decluttered and clean space……except for tacos, fries, and donuts.

Every few months I try to go through my closets, drawers, and bags and get rid of the unnecessary junk I have been carrying around.

I am notorious for holding onto things that I don’t use just because “eh I might need it one day” when in reality I haven’t needed it and I don’t use it because it’s ugly and stupid.

So here are 5 spaces to declutter and clean this Spring! Put on your favorite music or podcast and get to work.

1. Your closet/dresser drawers. Go through every single item. Look at it and seriously ask yourself when the last time you wore it was and if you could imagine yourself wearing it still. In the past, I held on to items because at one time I thought they were cute and liked them but in reality, I was always passing them over. Seriously think about what you wear.  I like to have 3 piles: keep, donate, throw away. Anything that’s in good condition that I think someone else would benefit from I donate. Anything that is stained, worn, stretched out–I throw away. Throw out broken hangers and put seasonal items away that you won’t need for awhile.

2. Your Medicine Cabinet/Linen Closet. I have had a bright green bin stuffed with nail polish, body wash, random medicine, makeup, and other random toiletries in my possession for 8 years. I have carried it from dorm room to apartment to apartment and it has slowly accumulated more and more junk. My plan is to go through it and throw out anything that is expired or that I don’t use. We have several of these random storage bins tucked away that are filled with junk. Our linen closet, in general, could use some TLC. I love these organizing bins you can pick up at Target.

3. Your purse. If you are anything like me, your purse is a scary hoarders den of receipts,  lip products, and wrappers ( I like to have snacks with me okay?). Every few weeks I strive to clean it out and reorganize. Lately, I have been putting zippered pouches in my purse to hold makeup, pens, and other knick knacks. I love this cactus print one you can shop here4. Your junk drawer. I am a firm believer that in every home there is a junk drawer. Even Martha Stewart has to have one, in fact, I would be concerned if she didn’t! I know I know “everything has a place and everything in its place” there are just some things that don’t have a place so leave me alone! Our junk drawer is filled with pens, pencils, scissors, receipts, coupons, gift cards, lighters, and 923019301 other things. I plan to go through it and throw out any coupons that are expired, pens that don’t work, and again anything that we don’t use! I feel better already.

5. Your suitcases/Travel Bags. This is one that often gets overlooked. Go through your suitcases and tote bags, I always find random stuff we grabbed at the hotel or receipts and travel documents that need to be thrown out. The next time you go to use them they will be clean and ready to go!

Allow yourself time. Don’t jump into this in a rush. Cleaning and organizing take time and you want to be able to start and finish a project before moving on to another.

Tackle those five spots and you will be well on your way to a clean and organized Spring!

Any Spring cleaning tips for me? Drop me a note in the comments!

  1. Hey sweet girl, these are great tips, I can relate to them all…..Mr Jer said when you are finished teaching you can move in our house and help us tackle the basement🤣🤣

Proud of you have a Blessed Day

  2. What a great idea to go through my suitcases! I have tons of stuff tucked away in them that I could totally get rid of.

  3. My home is in need of a big purge and cleaning! I am so busy all the time and I just don’t have any time to go through stuff, so it continues to pile up in the basement. This summer for sure!

    1. Oh my gosh, 5 times!!! You have me beat…I moved twice and I thought that was terrible! I am gearing up for another move in another month or so and I definitely am going to take the time to throw a ton of stuff out!

  4. My purse is always a hot mess. I like the idea of having small zippered pouches to keep in your purse for organization. And yours is too cute!

    1. Thank you! I thought that one was darling 🙂 My purse stays nice and clean for about 2 days and then I have to clean it out again lol

    1. Good luck! The junk drawer is always at the bottom of my list, I am right there with ya!

  6. OMG I am so on the same page as a clean space – tacos, fries and donuts! First day of spring I have totally done my master bedroom. Today is the office and tomorrow the kitchen! I love spring cleaning!

    1. Glad to hear you found this helpful! Sounds like I need to take a tip from you and stay on top of my clutter 🙂

  7. My linen closet is always the last thing I think about cleaning. I need to tackle that soon. It’s a mess and needs to be cleaned during our spring cleaning routine!

  8. Spring cleaning, for me, is a time to clean those things I don’t clean often. Like washing curtains, getting carpets cleaned, cleaning blinds, replacing filters, etc. I try to do the best job I can on all the other stuff all year.

P.S. I don’t know if it is my computer or not, but I can barely read the words of your post…they are nearly white.

  9. I really need to go through my drawers. Most of my clothes are at least 3 years old. Now that I’ve had 2 kids, I need to see what actually fits and what is just taking up space in my closet.

  10. Love this post!! I’ve started my spring cleaning and broke it down into different spaces as well so I don’t get too overwhelmed. I started with my makeup drawers then refrigerator/pantry (lol) as a warmup before hitting up the more daunting closets. I’ve also done my purses and luggage! It can be a bit tedious at times, but in the end, it feels so good to get rid of clutter!

  11. This is great!! I need to start working on my spring cleaning to get my office/vanity area more organized. The junk drawer really needs to get cleaned out haha.

  14. I need to get my entire family onboard with spring cleaning. Just sitting here looking at my desk I realize there are probably 10 items I could toss out!

  15. Awesome tips! I’m also a ‘I might need this one day’ kinda person and I have tried to so hard to simply let things go. It’s been amazing and it gets rid of the clutter so fast.

  16. I love your tips, so helpful! I need to spring clean my whole life. After our recent move everything is kind of a mess. I can’t wait to start clearing out the clutter and getting everything on track.
